Heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms have been affecting southern Italy (in particular Calabria, Puglia and Sicily regions) over the past 48 hours, triggering landslides and causing floods, rivers overflow, mudflows and a number of severe weather-related incidents (particularly due to the strong wind) that have resulted in evacuations and damage.
Media reports, as of 5 December, 13 evacuated people across the Catanzaro province (Calabria) due to floods. Several damaged houses were also reported in the same province (due to the strong wind). In addition, media reports a number of evacuated people, some isolated families and several interrupted roads (due to landslides) across the Messina province (Sicily).
Over the next 24 hours, drier conditions are expected over the already affected regions.
