Türkiye - Severe weather (ECHO 06 May 2026)

On?3?May, heavy thunderstorms struck the provinces of Gaziantep and Sanliurfa in southern Türkiye, bringing intense rain, strong winds and flash floods. These severe weather-related events caused casualties and damage.
Media, as of 4 May, reports that one person in Sanliurfa as killed as a solar panel was torn from a roof and fell onto a car, while 51 others were injured. Houses and streets were submerged, roofs were ripped off, trees were uprooted, and numerous vehicles and buildings were damaged. In total, 39 schools in the districts of Sahinbey, Sehitkamil, Nizip and Yavuzeli suffered minor damage and several were temporarily closed.
At the same time, western Turkey (Afyonkarahisar province) experienced an abrupt return to winter-type weather, with heavy snowfall and resultant road closures.
Over the next 48?hours, further rainfall is expected across much of the country, while the west will see drier conditions.
