Italy, France - Snow avalanches (ECHO 11 Feb 2026)

Multiple snow avalanches occurred in south-eastern France and northern and north-eastern Italy over 7-8 February, causing several casualties.
Media reports, as of 10 February, a total of 11 fatalities, of whom eight are in Italy and three more in France. In Italy, five fatalities were reported across the Trentino-South Tyrol region and three in the Albosaggia municipality, Sondrio province (northern Lombardy region). In France, two fatalities were reported in the Saint-Véran commune, Hautes-Alpes department (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region), and one more across the Haute Maurienne Vanoise Community of Municipalities, Savoie department (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region).
Over the next 48 hours, no more severe weather is forecast over south-eastern France and northern and north-eastern Italy.
