An earthquake of 5.5 M at a depth of 29 km occurred in north-eastern India, near the border with Bhutan, on 14 September at 11.11 UTC (16.41 local time). The epicentre was located inland approximately 15 km south-east of the town of Udalguri, Udalguri district, northern Assam state.
USGS PAGER estimates that up to 99,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and up to 2.11 million to strong shaking. The earthquake was also felt in the neighbouring West Bengal state and across south-eastern Bhutan
Media report, as of 15 September, two injured persons and a number of damaged houses across the northern Assam state, where the most affected is the Udalguri district.
