Russia - Earthquake (ECHO 20 Sep 2025)

An earthquake of 7.4 M at a depth of 39.5 km occurred in the northern Pacific Ocean, eastern coast of Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia on 13 September at 02.37 UTC (at 14.37 local time). The epicentre was approximately 16 km east of the coast, and 111 km from Petropavlovsk in Kamchatsky, the Russian Far East region.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre initially issued a tsunami threat that was then cancelled.
USGS PAGER estimates that up to 210,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 18,000 to strong shaking.
According to media, the national authorities have been analysing potential damage to buildings; no casualties have been reported so far.
The Kamchatka peninsula has been experiencing frequent seismic activity since the 8.8 M earthquake occurred on 30 July.
