  • An earthquake of 5.7 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in Aheqi county, Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, north-western China, on 29 January at 22.27 UTC (30 January at 6.27 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 122 km west-northwest of Aykol City, Xinjiang Province.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 7,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to media there are no immediate reports of any impact. However, a 7.0 M earthquake hit the same area on 22 January and resulted in six fatalities and more than 100 damaged/collapsed houses.
