  • Since 5 March, heavy rain hit the Municipality of Bandeirantes in the north of the State of Paraná (southern Brazil), causing floods and resulting in displacement and damage.
  • According to media reports, at least 700 people have been displaced and 250 houses damaged. On 5 March, the Municipality of Bandeirantes declared a state of emergency following the flood events.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over the affected Municipality.

  • Since the past week, heavy rain has affected several municipalities of Ceará State (north-eastern Brazil), causing floods, triggering landslides and leading to casualties and damage.
  • According to the authorities of Ceará State, three people died, two have been injured, and two others were rescued following a landslide in Aratuba Municipality (northeastern Ceará) occurred on 16 March. In addition, 50 people have been evacuated and 15 houses damaged.
  • In Itapipoca City, 30 families have been preventively evacuated due to floods and landslides, while several municipalities have been declared under a state of emergency after heavy rainfall.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated thunderstorms is forecast over the affected State.

  • Heavy rainfall continued to affect north-eastern Brazil (in particular Ceara, Maranhao, Para, Pernambuco, and Piau States) over the last week, causing floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Maranhão State, media report, as of 23 March, six fatalities, of which three in Açailândia City due to floods and two in Santa Luzia Municipality due to a landslide. Around 800 displaced families were reported across the State. More than 400 displaced families were also reported across Pará State. Furthermore, media report several evacuated families throughout Pernambuco State.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over the already affected State, except over Pernambuco State.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting north-western Brazil (in particular Acre and Amazonas States) since 24 March, causing floods, rivers overflow and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Acre State, WHO PAHO reports as of 27 March, 961 displaced people (a number of these in fice shelters) across Brasileia, Assis Brasil and Xapuri Municipalities (southern Acre), due to floods. In Amazonas State, 172 people have been displaced in the Manaus Municipality (eastern Amazonas) due to landslides and floods.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over both the already affected states.

  • Heavy rainfall continued to affect north-western Brazil (in particular the Acre State) since 23 March, causing floods, rivers overflow (particularly the Acre River in the south-east) and triggering landslides that have resulted in an increased number of population displacements and widespread damage. The most affected Municipalities are Rio Branco (capital of Acre), Assis Brasil, Brasileia, Epitaciolândia, and Xapuri.
  • Media report, as of 30 March, around 11,850 displaced people (a number of these across several evacuation centres) of which 8,886 in Brasileia, 2,213 in Rio Branco, 433 in Assis Brasil and 316 in Xapuri. In addition, several damaged houses and roads and a total of approximately 15,000 affected people were reported across the State.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole Acre State.
