  • Since 13 April forest fires have been raging throughout the Valencian Community (eastern Spain), causing population evacuations and damage. 
  • On 16 April two large fires were active, one near the village of Tárbena and another in the municipality of Jávea, which has now been extinguished. According to the JRC's European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), these two fires have so far burned an area of almost 800 hectares. The Tárbena fire is currently not under control although it is progressing favourably.
  • Three firefighters have been slightly injured, about 200 people have been evacuated (some of them in a temporary shelter) and several roads are closed in the area of the village of Tárbena and the neighbouring village of Parcent.
  • For the next 24 hours, according to the JRC's EFFIS, high to extreme fire danger is forecast throughout the Valencian Community.
