  • Several wildfires continue to burn across central and north-eastern Colombia (bordering with Venezuela) since early January, causing casualties and damage. The worst affected Departments are Huila, Sucre, Boyaca´, La Guajira, Cundinamarca, Santander and the Capital City Bogota. All are in a state of emergency, with the exception of Santander Department.
  • According to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), as of 25 January, there are currently 20 active wildfires and 12 wildfires under control. Since 1 January, 245 wildfires were fully extinguished. The total burnt area over the aforementioned period is more than 7,000 ha.
  • Media report, as of 26 January, two injured firefighters across the rural area of Cerro El Cable, just east of the Bogota City area.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast is from high to extreme over central and north-eastern Colombia.
  • The Colombian government has issued a generic request for assistance through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), the list of needs is yet to be finalised.
