  • Tropical storm PRAPIROON passed over the Hainan Island, southern China on 22 July and continued north-west over the Gulf of Tonkin toward the border area between south-western China and north-eastern Vietnam, strengthening. It made landfall over this area on 22 July very late in the evening (UTC), with maximum sustained winds up to 102 km/h. On 23 July at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located inland in Vietnam, close to the coast, near the border area with south-western China, with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/.
  • Media report, as of 23 July, approximately 6,000 isolated people across the Cat Ba and Co To islands, northern Vietnam.
  • On 23-24 July, PRAPIROON is forecasted moving inland over the border area between south-western China and north-eastern Vietnam, further weakening as a tropical depression.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecasted over Hainan and northern Vietnam.
