  • Tropical cyclone YAGI (named "Enteng" in the Philippines) formed over the central Philippine Sea in the morning (UTC) of 1 September and started moving north-west toward Visayas islands and the Luzon island (central and northern Philippines), strenghtening. On 2 September at 3.00 UTC its centre was located over the sea very close to the coastal city of Casiguran (Central Luzon region), with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Its passage over the Visayas islands caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides resulted in casualties and damage.  The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports, as of 2 September, two fatalities, ten injured people, 63 displaced people and ten damaged houses across the Central Visayas region.
  • YAGI is expected to continue north-west over the northern Luzon island on 2-3 September, as a tropical storm, further strenghtening. After that, on 3-7 September, it is forecast to enter in the South China Sea and to continue moving west toward the northern Hainan island and the south-western Guangdong province (southern China).
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over central Philippines and the whole Luzon island.

  • Tropical cyclone YAGI (named "Enteng" in the Philippines) continue moving north-west over the northern Luzon island on 2 September, as a tropical storm. On 3 September at 3.00 UTC its centre was located offshore over the South China Sea, west of the coast of the Ilocos region, with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Its passage over the Visayas and Luzon islands caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that resulted in casualties and damage. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports, as of 3 September, ten fatalities, ten injured people, over 39,800 evacuated people (of which around 38,000 people in 218 evacuation centres) and a total of approximately 147,000 affected people.
  • YAGI is expected to continue westward over the South China Sea on 3-6 September, further strenghtening. After that, it is forecast to make landfall over the northern Hainan island (southern China) on 6 September in the morning (UTC), with maximum sustained winds up to 204 km/h (typhoon).
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall are still forecast over central Philippines and most of the Luzon island.

  • Tropical cyclone YAGI (named "Enteng" in the Philippines) crossed northern Luzon island on 2 September, as a tropical storm and is moving west over the South China Sea towards south-eastern China. On 4 September at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore, approximately 750 km east of Hainan island, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h (typhoon).
  • Following its passage over northern and eastern Philippines in combination with the south-west monsoon, 12 people have died, 11 others have been injured and seven are still missing. Moreover, almost 550,000 people have been affected and almost 65,000 displaced across eight regions of the country.
  • YAGI is expected to continue westward over the South China Sea on 4-6 September, further strengthening and it could make landfall between northern Hainan island and south-eastern Guangdong province, south-eastern China on 6 September, with maximum sustained winds up to 213 km/h (typhoon).
  • Over the next 72 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is still forecast over central and northern Philippines and south-eastern China.

  • Tropical cyclone YAGI (named "Enteng" in the Philippines) continue westward over the South China Sea on 4 September as a typhoon, further strenghtening. On 5 September at 0.00 UTC its centre was located offshore approximately 545 km east of the Qiongzhou strait, southern China, with maximum sustained winds of 241 km/h (typhoon).
  • Its passage over the Visayas and Luzon islands caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that resulted in casualties and damage. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports, as of 5 September, 13 fatalities, 15 persons still missing, 11 injured people, over 51,000 evacuated people. 
  • YAGI is expected moving westward over the South China Sea on 5 September, slightly weakening but remaining a typhoon. It is forecast to make landfall over the area of the far southern Guangdong province on 6 September early in the afternoon (UTC), with maximum sustained winds up to 222 km/h (typhoon).
  • Very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over the Guangdong province and the Hainan island starting from 6 September.

  • Tropical cyclone YAGI (termed "Enteng" in the Philippines) continue westward over the South China Sea on 5 September as a typhoon, further strenghtening. On 6 September at 0.00 UTC its centre was located over the sea approximately 130 km east of the north-eastern coast of the Hainan island, southern China and approximately 550 km south-east of the Ha Long city area, northern Vietnam, with maximum sustained winds of 241 km/h (typhoon).
  • The passage of YAGI over the Visayas and Luzon islands caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that resulted in casualties and damage. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports, as of 6 September, 16 fatalities, 17 persons still missing, 13 injured people and nearly 47,700 evacuated people.
  • YAGI is forecast to make landfall over the northern Hainan island on very late in the morning (UTC) of 6 September, with maximum sustained winds up to 240 km/h. After that it is expected to make a second landfall over the greater Hanoi area on 7 September, with maximum sustained winds up to 185 km/h.
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over the Guangdong province and the Hainan island, while severe weather is forecast over northern Vietnam starting from 7 September.

  • On 6 September, super Typhoon Yagi, the world's second-most powerful tropical cyclone of 2024, made landfall in Hainan, southern China. It was the strongest storm to hit the region in over a decade, with wind speeds exceeding 230 km/h. 2 people were killed, and 92 were injured.
  • In Vietnam, on 7 September, around 6:00 UTC, the typhoon generated winds of up to 166 km/h and made landfall on island districts of the northern part of the country. 50,000 people were evacuated and approximately 450,000 military personnel deployed to support the local population.
  • The Vietnamese government and the Red Cross Society are working on the response to the cyclone.

  • Typhoon YAGI made a first landfall over northern Hainan island on the morning (UTC) of 6 September with maximum sustained winds up to 230 km/h and a second landfall over far northern Vietnam, bordering with China and the greater Hanoi area on early morning (UTC) of 7 September with maximum sustained winds up to 210 km/h. After that it dissipated inland over northern Vietnam on 8 September.
  • The passage of YAGI caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that resulted in casualties and damage. In the Philippines, NDRRMC reports, as of 9 September, 20 fatalities, where Calabarzon region is the worst affected with 11 fatalities, 26 persons still missing, 22 injured people and over 78,900 evacuated people. In China, media reports four fatalities, 95 injured people and around 526,000 affected people across the Hainan island. In Vietnam, ADINet reports five fatalities, over 180 missing people, 186 injured people and a total of nearly 19,400 affected people throughout northern areas.
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall is still forecast over northern Vietnam and southern China.

  • The passage of the typhoon YAGI over Visayas islands and Luzon island, central and northern Philippines over 1-3 September, and over Hainan island and Guangdong province, southern China and the far northern Vietnam over 6-8 September, caused heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that resulted in an increased number of casualties.
  • In Vietnam, the government reported over 52,000 individuals evacuated due to severe flooding and landslides. At least 65 people were killed, 39 are missing, and more than 746 injured. On 9 September, Vietnam requested international support for humanitarian response and recovery efforts. Three joint needs assessments are being conducted in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong. 
  • In the Philippines, the death toll stands at 20 fatalities and 26 missing people, 22 injured and over 71,600 evacuated people, according to NDRRMC, as of 10 September. In China, the death toll stands at four fatalities and 95 injured people were reported, according to media, across the Hainan island.
  • Media reported flooded in Northern Lao PDR and impact in Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar too. Over the next 96 hours, very heavy rainfall is still forecast over northern Vietnam and southern China.

  • The passage of the typhoon YAGI over central and northern Philippines, Hainan island and Guangdong province, southern China, and the northern provinces of Vietnam, caused very heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that have resulted in an increased number of casualties. The combined effects of the monsoon and tropical disturbances have caused flooding and flash floods in northern Laos and Thailand too.
  • In Vietnam, the authorities have reported, as of 11 September, 127 fatalities, approximately 54 people still missing, more than 750 injured and over 52,000 evacuated people across northern provinces. Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces are the worst affected. Three provinces have declared emergencies: Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai.
  • In the Philippines, the death toll increased to 21 fatalities, according to NDRRMC on 11 September. NDRRMC also reports 26 people still missing, 22 injured and approximately 72,000 evacuated people. In China, media reports still four fatalities and nearly 100 injured people across the Hainan island.
  • Over the next 72 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over northern and central Vietnam and southern China.

  • Following the passage of YAGI and its remnants across several countries of south-eastern Asia that brought, heavy rainfall, strong winds and widespread floods, the humanitarian impact continues to increase.
  • According to media and government reports, in Myanmar, more than 100 people died, 64 others are reported still missing and 320,000 have been evacuated. In addition, 66,000 houses have been destroyed. Central Myanmar is particularly affected.
  • In Viet Nam, UN OCHA reports 273 fatalities, 78 missing people, 1,900 injured people and 100,000 evacuated households. Moreover, a total of 168,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed.
  • In the Philippines, 14,449 families (49,236 individuals) remain displaced.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to locally very heavy rainfall will still occur over the affected countries.

  • The aftermath of tropical cyclone YAGI and the ongoing Southwest monsoon continue to unfold across the Philippines, Viet Nam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. Tropical Bebinca and the approaching tropical depression GENER are expected to worsen the Southwest monsoon, continuing to cause destruction, displacement and loss of life. 
  • The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) as of 16 September reports almost 300 deaths and 38 missing people in Viet Nam. In Myanmar, 631,000 people have been affected, while 116 people have been reported dead. In Laos, four people died and another is still missing. In the Philippines, 21 people died and 26 are reported missing. 
  • Following Viet Nam's request for assistance, the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) is coordinating with Member and Participating states to respond to the needs.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service () was activated in rapid mapping mode to provide damage assessment across Viet Nam and ten maps have been produced so far. DG ECHO is assessing how to further respond to the significant needs of the affected populations across the region.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected over most of the hit countries.
