Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan - Landslides and floods (ECHO 08 May 2024)Wed, 08 May 2024 10:33

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Tajikistan and the neighboring Kyrgyzstan since 5 May, causing landslides, mudslides, floods and flash floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Tajikistan, media report, as of 8 May, three fatalities and approximately 40 displaced people across the Soughd, Khatlon and Gorno-Badakhshan regions and in the area of the capital city Dushanbe, in particular due to a number of mudslides.
  • In Kyrgyzstan, eight displaced families and nearly 100 affected families were reported across the Bazar-Korgon district (Jalal-Abad region), also in this case due to mudslides.
  • Over the next 48 hours no more rainfall is forecasted for both countries, while heavy rainfall is forecasted over most of Tajikistan and central-southern Kyrgyzstan starting from 10 May.
