  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting north-eastern Iraq, in particular the Kurdistan region since 18 March, causing floods and flash floods and that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 20 March, two fatalities, at least ten injured people, approximately 30 destroyed houses and around 100 damaged houses across the Duhok City area , Duhok Governorate. Floods were also reported across Erbil, the main city of the Kurdistan region.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over most of the already affected Kurdistan region.

  • The amount of humanitarian impact is increasing in Iraq following floods and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall that have been affecting the whole country since 18 March.
  • According to the International Federation of Red Cross And Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), three people died, 11 others were injured and 627 people have been evacuated in at least ten localities of the northern Duhok Governorate, Kurdistan region. In Erbil Governorate, Kurdistan region, 516 people have been affected by floods in areas like Terawa, Badawa, Koyistan, and Dara Tow.
  • Furthermore, also the Governorates of Diyala and Maysan, eastern Iraq experienced heavy rain and floods where 12 individuals were affected. 
  • For the next 48 hours, light to moderate rain is expected across northern Iraq, close to the border with Türkiye.
