  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting southern Brazil, in particular the Rio Grande Do Sul State and the Rio de Janeiro State since 21 February, causing floods, flash floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 23 February, nine fatalities, of which four in Barra do Piraí Municipality, Rio de Janeiro State, two in Japeri Municipality and three more across the Nova Iguaçu Municipality, Rio Grande Do Sul State. In addition, media also report nearly 550 displaced people across Nova Iguaçu and Japeri Municipalities.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecast over the whole Rio de Janeiro State while no more rainfall is forecast over most of the Rio Grande Do Sul State.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting western Brazil, in particular the Acre State, bordering with Peru and Bolivia since 25 February, causing floods and rivers overflow, that have resulted in population evacuation and damage.
  • 17 municipalities (out of 22) across the Acre State have been affected, where the state of emergency was declared by the Governor of Acre.
  • The WHO/PAHO and the Government of Acre report, as of 28 February, a total of approximately 11,300 evacuated people, many of these to 46 shelters throughout nine of the affected municipalities.
  • Over the next 72 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over the whole already affected Acre State.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting south-eastern Brazil, in particular the Espirito Santo State and the neighbouring Rio de Janeiro State over the last 72 hours, causing floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and severe damage.
  • Media report, as of 25 March, 25 fatalities, of which 17 fatalities across the Espirito Santo State, 15 in the Mimoso do Sul Municipality, the worst affected, and two more in the Apiaca Municipality, and eight more fatalities in the Rio de Janeiro State. In addition, media also report approximately 5,200 displaced people throughout the Espirito Santo State.
  • Over the next 72 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecast over the whole Rio de Janeiro State and most of the Espirito Santo State.
