  • Following the widespread floods triggered by heavy rainfall over the last week, several provinces in Java (Jakarta, West Java and Banten) are still inundated.
  • According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 3 March, 4,140 people have been displaced in Karawang Regency (West Java Province), 677 in Tangerang Regency (Banten Province) and 65 in East Jakarta administrative city.  
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast across the affected provinces.
  • Since January 2020, hundreds of natural events occurred in the country leading to 122 fatalities (102 due to floods, 16 to landslides and 4 to tornadoes), 2 missing people and more than 1.4 million displaced.

  • Heavy rain and strong winds continue to affect several parts of the country, triggering widespread floods and leading to casualties and damage.
  • According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 9 March, 106 people have been affected and 24 displaced in Semarang City (Central Java Province). Floods have been reported also in West Papua Province with 150 people  affected. A tornado in Ambarawa Town (Central Java) injured one person and damaged several houses.
  • More heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours across most of the affected provinces.
Indonesia, February 2020Indonesia's National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), reported heavy rain caused landslides and flooding in parts of West Sumatra and West Java provinces from 16 February. Elsewhere, flooding was reported in Sumbawa Regency in the province of West Nusa Tenggara Province from 17 February, and in Penajam district, North Penajam Paser Regency in East Kalimantan province from 18 February. Heavy rain also triggered a landslide in Ciawi District, Bogor Regency, West Java, in the early hours of 20 February, killing four people inside. On 23 February, BNPB reported some flooding in East Jakarta after the Ciliwung, Sunter and Kali Mati rivers overflowed. Over 750 people were evacuated. By 25 February this figure had increased to 5,022 people, staying in 47 emergency camps in East Jakarta. A further 2,188 people were also displaced in North Jakarta and 121 in South Jakarta.
