  • A new tropical cyclone named MEGAN formed over the Gulf of Carpentaria on 15 March and started moving south toward the north-eastern Northern Territory, Australia.
  • MEGAN made landfall over the area of Port McArthur City, Northern Territory on 18 March around 5.30 UTC, with maximum sustained winds up to 159 km/h (tropical cyclone).
  • Tropical cyclone MEGAN is expected to continue southwestward inland over Northern Territory on 19-20 March, weakening into a tropical storm.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over northern and central Northern Territory and over north-western Queensland.
