  • On 30 July, Tropical Cyclone ISAIAS passed over central and northern Dominican Republic and north-eastern Haiti. On 31 July, its centre was located over the sea, very close to the southern Turks and Caicos and the far south of the Bahamas with maximum sustained wind of 130 km/h (Category 1 Hurricane).
  • In western and south-western Puerto Rico, media report as of 31 July, around 450,000 people without electricity due to widespread flooding and some localized landslides. Local authorities prepared more than 300 shelters for emergency use. In Haiti, UN OCHA reports as of 30 July, 37 damaged houses mainly across northern and central Departments.
  • ISAIAS is forecast to continue  north-westward over the Bahamas on 31 July - 1 August, with maximum sustained wind of 130-140 km/h (Category 1 Hurricane). 
  • Heavy rain, strong wind and storm surge are forecast over the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas and southern Florida 31 July - 1 August, as well as over central-northern Florida, coastal areas of Georgia and the Carolinas on 2-3 August.
  • NOAA has issued a hurricane warning over most of the Bahamas, and a tropical storm warning over the coastal areas of the Dominican Republic, northern Haiti, and Turks and Caicos.

  • Tropical Cyclone ISAIAS passed over the Bahamas on 31 July - 2 August as a Category 1 Hurricane. On 3 August at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located just off the coast of Florida, approximately 230 km south-east of Jacksonville, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h (tropical storm).
  • 27 people were evacuated in the Bahamas, more than 5,500 people in the Dominican Republic, with 1,300 houses damaged there, and 100 houses damaged in eastern Cuba.
  • ISAIAS will continue north-east along the Georgia and South Carolina coast with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h, before making landfall over southern North Carolina, on 4 August, as a tropical storm.
  • Heavy rain, strong winds, and storm surge are forecast over Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas on 3-4 August.
  • A storm surge warning is in effect for coastal areas of South Carolina and southern North Carolina, and a tropical storm warning over coastal Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.

  • Tropical Cyclone ISAIAS is moving as a post-tropical cyclone over southern Canada. On 5 August at 6.00 UTC, its centre was approximately 100 km south-west of Quebec (Canada), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
  • Media report, 6 deaths, 2 in North Carolina, 2 in Maryland and New York City, one in Pennsylvania, and one in Delaware.
  • ISAIAS is forecast to continue north-east over southern and eastern Quebec on 5-6 August, as a post-tropical cyclone.
  • Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over New England (Maine in particular), and southern and eastern Quebec on 5-6 August.
USA, Canada - Tropical Cyclone ISAIAS update Thu, 06 Aug 2020 13:09

  • Post-tropical cyclone ISAIAS passed over northern New England (USA), and southern and central Quebec (Canada) on 5 August. The passage of ISAIAS as a tropical storm and Category 1 Hurricane over the Caribbean, and eastern USA on 30 July - 4 August caused heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge, that have resulted in casualties and damage. The death toll reached at least nine, and more than 3 million people were reported affected throughout the region.
  • Media report, as of 6 August, one fatality in Puerto Rico, two in the Dominican Republic, and at least six across USA (in particular, two across North Carolina, one in Maryland, one in Delaware, one in New York City, and one more in Pennsylvania). In the USA, thousands of people were evacuated across the affected States, and nearly 3 million people were affected by power outages. In addition, dozen of buildings were reported damaged across Haiti, and across the Bahamas.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over eastern USA, from Florida to the New England, and over southern and central Quebec (Canada).
