  • An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 M at a depth of 16 km occurred on 21 October at 3:24 UTC at Tapat Island in eastern North Maluku province, western Indonesia. The epicentre was located approximately 60 km south of Labuha city in Bacan Island in North Maluko province.
  • On 21 October, a 5.7 M aftershock and four aftershocks with a magnitude between 4.5 and 5 M hit the same area.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 2,000 people were exposed to strong and more than 11,000 to moderate shaking.
  • According to media reports, as of 22 October, the earthquake was felt in Labuha City on Obi Island, but there are no reports of any damage or casualties.
