  • An earthquake of 7.4 M at a depth of 117 km occurred in the Antofagasta region in north-eastern Chile on 19 July at 1:50 UTC (18 July at 21:50 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 45 km east-south-east of San Pedro de Atacama municipality in the El Loa province in Antofagasta region. At least two aftershocks of 5.0 and 4.7 M have been recorded in the area.
  • According to USGS PAGER, up to 184,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 161,000 to strong shaking.
  • As of 19 July, the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (SENAPRED) report that the seismic event was felt across Arica and Parinacota and Coquimbo regions and that disruption of electricity has been reported and already restored and that one road and one bridge have been damaged. No tsunami threat was triggered.
  • Assessment of people and infrastructure is still ongoing.
