An earthquake of 5.8 M at a depth of 10 km hit western Turkey on 8 August at 11.25 UTC. The epicentre was located approximately 8 km east-southeast of Baklan Town (Denizli Province). It was preceded by a 4.2 M earthquake 7 km south-west.
USGS PAGER estimates that up to 5,000 were exposed to very strong shaking and 79,000 people to strong shaking.
According to media reports, at least 20 people have been injured and some houses have been damaged.
The European Commission Copernicus satellite mapping service was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 8 August.
