  • An earthquake of 5.8 M at a depth of 10 km hit western Turkey on 8 August at 11.25 UTC. The epicentre was located approximately 8 km east-southeast of Baklan Town (Denizli Province). It was preceded by a 4.2 M earthquake 7 km south-west.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 5,000 were exposed to very strong shaking and 79,000 people to strong shaking.
  • According to media reports, at least 20 people have been injured and some houses have been damaged.
  • The European Commission Copernicus satellite mapping service was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 8 August.
