  • The humanitarian impact continues to rise,  following heavy sustained rainfall and subsequent floods and flash-floods, which occurred since 25 March, across the country.
  • According to several sources, on 28 and 29 March at least 17 people died, 26 were injured, 147 homes were damaged. In total at least 2 200 people have been affected. 
  • Hardest hit are the provinces of Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Daikundi, Logar, Herat, Farah, Badghis, Ghor, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, Jawzjan, Faryab, and Laghman.
  • In addition, the floods severely impacted livelihoods, resulting in the loss of more than 1100 livestock, and damaged agricultural land. 80 km of roads were destroyed.  
  • On 30-31 March, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across central, eastern and north-eastern Afghanistan. Humanitarian agencies are intervening and carrying out assessments.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Afghanistan, causing several severe weather-related incidents, floods and landslides, with casualties and widespread damage.
  • Media report that since 26 March 110 people died, 160 were injured, some people are still missing. Nearly 1 000 houses were destroyed and approximately 4 150 damaged houses were damaged, countrywide. The Kabul-Jalalabad highway has been closed for 4 days.
  • In addition, an earthquake of 5.8 M at a depth of 186 km occurred in north-eastern Afghanistan (near the border with Pakistan) on 3 April at 16.12 UTC (20.42 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 35 km south of the Jurm village (Badakhshan province). Media report 12 fatalities, four injured people, five destroyed houses and 33 damaged houses across the Kabul, Panjsher, Logar, Nangarhar, Laghman and Nuristan provinces.
  • Over the next 24 hours more rainfall, locally heavy, is in the forecast for large parts of the country.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Afghanistan since late March, causing floods, flash floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in more casualties and widespread damage. The worst affected provinces are Helmand, Herat, Badghis, Uruzgan, Samangan, Laghman and Parwan.

  • The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reports, as of 13 April, 161 fatalities, eight still missing persons, 230 injured people and a total of more than 74 200 affected people. In addition, the IFRC also reports over 10 600 damaged houses, many of them entirely destroyed, across the affected provinces.

  • Over the next 72 hours, no rainfall is forecast over the whole country, while more rainfall is forecast over northern Afghanistan starting from 16 April.

Afghanistan, Late March 2026Disaster authorities in Afghanistan reported damage and flooding in several provinces as a result of heavy rain in late March 2026. As of 26 March, ANDMA said 5 people had died and 94 houses were damaged across the provinces of Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Paktika and Parwan. Local media reported a dam was destroyed by flooding in Helmand Province. On 30 March ANDMA reported fatalities. More than 20 provinces were now affected, including Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Bamyan, Daikundi, Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Zabul, Kandahar, Helmand, Herat, Ghor, Balkh, Badghis, Samangan, Sar-e Pol, Baghlan, Takhar, Jawzjan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Nangarhar, and Laghman. In a further update of 31 March, ANDMA reported more fatalities and more provinces affected including: Badakhshan, Uruzgan, Ghazni and Khost. Warnings were issued for further heavy rain on 31 March 2026. On 04 April ANDMA reported 77 severe weather related fatalities since 26 March, a further 137 people were injured and more than 3,460 homes were either completely or partially destroyed.
