  • The humanitarian impact of the floods caused by the Ndjili river overflow that occurred between 4 and 11 April across 13 municipalities of the Kinshasa capital city (western Democratic Republic of the Congo) is still increasing.
  • According to media reports, as of 15 April, the death toll has risen to 165 fatalities, 170 people have been injured, and more than 7,025 people are still displaced in emergency shelters. In addition, as of 13 April, the IFRC reported 60,070 affected people.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is still forecast over the Kinshasa city area.
Democratic Republic of the Congo - Floods, update
  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting the Tanganyika Province, in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the last few weeks, causing flooding and resulting in casualties and damage.
  • According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and media, as of 15 April, approximately 10,000 people have been displaced due to the Rugumba River overflow, with Kalemie and Nyunzu towns, in the central Tanganyika Province, being the most affected. In addition, thousands of people are still without shelter, and houses, schools and crops have been damaged or destroyed.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is forecast over the affected areas.
