  • Heavy rain and strong winds have been affecting central and eastern Europe, particularly Romania, Poland, Austria, Czechia, and Slovakia, causing floods and river overflow, resulting in casualties and damage. As of 17 September, media report 21 fatalities, including seven in Romania, six in Poland, five in Austria and three in Czechia, and at least eight missing people in Czechia.
  • In Romania, more than 15,000 people and 5,000 houses have been affected by floods.
    In Lower Austria, at least 2,220 people have been displaced due to the overflow of several rivers and also due to broken dykes, transportation disruptions are still recorded.
  • In Poland, as of 16 September, IFRC reports  2,500 displaced people and 8,000 affected people, media report a dam breach in Stronie Slaskie town, in Klodzo County, a collapsed reservoir in Topola in Kazimierza county, a destroyed bridge in Glucholazy in Nysa County, south-western Poland.
  • In Czechia, 15,000 people have been evacuated from the affected area, and more than 12,600 people have been affected by the floods.
  • Slovakia declared a state of emergency in several areas, Poland declared a state of natural disaster, Lower Austria declared a disaster zone.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (, , , , ) was activated in rapid mapping mode to provide damage assessment across Romania, Austria, Slovakia, Germany and Poland, two maps have been produced so far. On 17 September more rainfall is expected over Czechia, drier conditions are forecast on 18 September.

  • Heavy rain and strong winds affected central and eastern Europe, particularly Romania, Poland, Austria, Czechia, and Slovakia, causing floods and river overflow, resulting in casualties and damage. 
  • As of 18 September, COGIC and media report 22 fatalities, including seven un Poland, seven in Romania, five in Austria and three in Czechia, and at least eight missing people in Czechia.
  • Water levels of the Oder River in Poland and Czechia, and the Danube River in Slovakia and Hungary continue to rise.
  • Slovakia and Moravia region in Czechia declared a state of emergency in several areas, Lower Austria declared a disaster zone.
  • On 17 of September, Czechia requested assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) in the form of dehumidifiers, Slovenia offered 260 items. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (, , , , ) was activated in rapid mapping mode across the affected countries five maps have been produced so far.
  • On 18-19 September, drier conditions are expected over the affected countries, with the exception of eastern and southern Austria.

  • Heavy rainfall affected central and eastern Europe over 11-19 September, causing floods and rivers overflow, that resulted in casualties and widespread damage. The most affected areas are eastern Romania, southern Poland, eastern Austria, eastern Czechia, western Slovakia and northern Italy.
  • DG ECHO and national authorities report, as of 20 September in the afternoon (UTC), nearly 25,000 displaced people in Czechia, Poland, Austria and Italy and a total of around 373,000 affected people in Czechia, Romania and Poland.
  • Following Czechia’s request for assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), Slovenia, Belgium, Germany, Croatia and Austria offered 1,190 dehumidifiers. Following Poland’s request for assistance from the UCPM, Sweden offered water treatment items and dehumidifiers, and Lithuania offered boots.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated nine times in rapid mapping over 13-22 September (EMSR 755, 756, 757, 758, 759, 761, 762, 763, 764) across Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Austria and Italy to provide the damage assessment.
  • On 23-25 September, more rainfall is forecast over central and northern Italy, eastern France, the whole Switzerland, southern Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Czechia and western Poland.
