  • Heavy rainfall continues to affect the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, triggering landslides and causing floods and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to media reports, 32 people died in several landslides that occurred in the mining towns of Rubaya and Bihambwe, Masisi Territory (North Kivu Province, eastern DRC). In South Kivu Province (eastern DRC), seven people died in mid-November, due to landslides and heavy rainfall-related accidents.
  • In neighbouring Rwanda, media reported three fatalities, after heavy rain caused floods in the Kigali Capital City. 
  • On 22-23 November, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is forecast over most of DRC (particularly eastern Provinces) and most of Rwanda.
Rwanda, November 2022Local media in Rwanda reported 3 people died after heavy rain caused floods in the city of Kigali 16 November 2022. The fatalities occurred in 3 separate incidents in Nyarugenge, Gasabo and Kicukiro districts. The City of Kigali also urged residents to avoid dumping waste in water channels and drainages.
