Amazonas, Brazil, May 2022The swollen Negro River caused flooding in streets of Manaus and surrounding rural areas of Amazonas State in northern Brazil in early May 2022. The river has been rising for some time and moved above the flood stage (29 metres) around 07 May 2022 and was expected to rise further. The municipal government said an estimated 14 communities will be affected, mainly those located on the left bank of the river in Manaus municipality. The government added that, as of 08 May 2022, some schools and health centres in the rural area have already been directly affected by the rising waters, changing the routine of the residents of these places, as well as the water supply, since a large part of the communities use artesian wells and, at the moment, all of them have already been affected by the flood.Tue 10 May 2022FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
