Tamil Nadu, India, Late December 2021Heavy rain caused some flooding in areas of Chennai and surrounding districts in Tamil Nadu, India in late December. Some areas saw more than 200 mm of rain in 24 hours. A red alert for heavy rain was in place for Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu. As many as 143 locations in Chennai were flooded. Three people died as a result of electrocution. Greater Chennai Corporation said as many as 145 pumps were running in Chennai to remove stagnant water. Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority said flood gates were opened to lower levels of the Redhills and Poondi dams.Fri 31 Dec 2021FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
