Tropical Cyclone Ida, Caribbean, August 2021Tropical Cyclone Ida formed over the Caribbean Sea on 26 August 2021 moving north-west towards Cuba, passing close to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. Teams from the National Works Agency (NWA) in Jamaica reported flooding, landslides and rock fall in the parishes of St. Thomas, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon and St. Elizabeth from 26 August 2021. Police warned people to avoid Cave Valley in St. Ann where flooding was more severe and had blocked roads. Hurricane Ida made landfall on the south coast of the province of Pinar del Rio in western Cuba, 27 August. Strong winds downed trees and power lines. Power was cut in many areas and 10,400 people were evacuated in the province of Pinar del Rio. Ida made landfall in Louisiana on 29 August. Storm surge flooded coastal areas in the southeastern parts of the state in particular Grand Isle.
