Southern Germany and Austria, July 2021Heavy rain in border areas between southern Germany and Austria caused flash floods, rivers to break banks and mudslides. The worst affected areas in Germany were in the district of Berchtesgadener Land in the state of Bavaria, which declared a state of emergency. 1 person died and at least 135 people were evacuated. As of 19 July, Hochwassernachrichtendienst Bayern reported levels of the Danube (Donau) were high in Passau further north in Neuburg an der Donau. In Austria, flash floods caused severe damage in Hallein in the state of Salzburg. Flooding was also reported in Kufstein in the province of Tyrol.
