  • Extensive floods, caused by heavy rain, continue to affect areas of central and western Europe, resulting in increased fatalities and damage.
  • Germany has been the most affected, where 164 individuals have died and 906 are injured and 2,400 missing in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia States (western Germany), as reported by the German Joint Information and Situation Centre (GMLZ). On 18 July, media reported one fatality and 130 evacuated from several districts in Bavaria State (southern Germany).
  • In eastern Belgium, the death toll increased to 31 and 163 individuals are missing, according to the Belgian National Crisis Center (NCCN). The Provinces of Liege (Walloon Region) and Limburg (Flanders Region) have been affected.
  • On 17-18 July, floods, flash floods, and mudslides in northern, middle and eastern parts of Austria, damaged houses and transport infrastructure. Several rivers in the provinces of Tyrol, Salzburg, Upper and Lower Austria, Vienna and Styria reached water levels close to or slightly above the danger mark. Slightly decreasing water levels are predicted today.
  • Light to moderate rain is forecast over south-eastern Germany, northern and central Austria on 19-20 July.

Western Germany, Mid-July 2021Flooding after torrential rain caused widespread damage in Germany, mostly in the western states of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP) and Bavaria. Late on 14 July rivers overflowed in NRW and RLP destroying buildings and causing a high number of fatalities. As of 16 July, 43 people had died in NRW and 60 in RLP. Transport, telecommunications, power and water infrastructure were severely damaged, impeding damage assessments. As of 16 July there were still an unknown number of people unaccounted for, including 1,300 people in Bad Neuenahr, Ahrweiler district, RLP. According to Germany's Civil Protection (Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe - BBK) as of 16 July, the affected districts included Hagen, Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Städteregion Aachen in NRW; Landkreis Ahrweiler, Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, Trier-Saarburg and Vulkaneifel in RLP; and Hof district in Bavaria.Fri 16 Jul 2021FloodList provided by Copernicus GloFAS
