Tropical Cyclone Gati, Somalia, November 2020Tropical Cyclone Gati formed over the Arabian Sea on 21 November. It rapidly intensified as it headed towards Somalia where made landfall on 22 November over the north-eastern coast of Bari administrative region (north-eastern Somalia) with maximum sustained wind up to 165 km/h. As of 24 November, 8 fatalities were reported in Somalia, many of them thought to be fishermen lost at sea. UN OCHA reported severe damage to property, roads and infrastructure including telecommunication services, 15,000 people displaced in Xaafuun and Hurdiya villages and 70,000 people have been affected in Somalia in total. FAO SWALIM reported rainfall totals from the storm were greater than amounts normally seen for the whole year. In a 24 hour period, Bosasso recorded 128mm of rain and Balidhidin 103mm.
