  • A new tropical storm named WUTIP formed in the central South China Sea in the morning (UTC) of 10 June and started moving north-west toward Hainan island - far southern China - as a tropical depression. On 11 June at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located over the South China Sea, approximately 450 km south-east of Hainan island, with maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h (tropical depression).
  • WUTIP is expected to make landfall over the area of the Nanyanhai city, eastern Hainan island late in the afternoon (UTC) of 12 June, with maximum sustained winds up to 102 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over Hainan island and southern China starting from 12 June for the following 96 hours.

  • Tropical storm WUTIP crossed the Paracel Islands and continued over the South China Sea toward Hainan Island. As of 12 June at 00:00 UTC, its centre was located over the South China Sea, approximately 153 km southeast of Sanya City on Hainan Island, with maximum sustained winds of 74 km/h (tropical storm strength).
  • WUTIP is expected to make landfall over southern Hainan, near the area of Danzhou City, in the afternoon (UTC) of 12 June, with maximum sustained winds of up to 83 km/h. After that, it will cross western Hainan island and it will make a second landfall between the southern coast of Guangxi and Guangdong provinces on 14 June.
  • Over the next 72 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges are forecast for Hainan Island, southern China, most of northern Viet Nam, Laos, and northern Thailand.

  • On 12 June, tropical cyclone WUTIP continued north-west over the South China Sea towards Hainan island, far southern China as a tropical storm, slightly strengthening. On 13 June at 0.00 (UTC), its centre was located offshore between the South China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin, very close to western Hainan and 200 km east of the coast of central Viet Nam, with maximum sustained winds of 111 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Heavy rainfall caused by WUTIP resulted in floods and severe weather-related incidents across central coastal Viet Nam. The ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports around 3,200 affected people and over 800 flooded houses in the affected area.
  • WUTIP is expected to continue north over the Gulf of Tonkin, passing very close to Hainan in the morning (UTC) of 13 June, with maximum sustained winds of 111 km/h. After that, it is forecast to make landfall over the south-eastern Guangxi province, southern China in the morning (UTC) of 14 June. 
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over Hainan island, southern China and central and northern Viet Nam.
