Fiji - Tropical cyclone RAE (ECHO 01 Mar 2025)Mon, 24 Feb 2025 09:47

A new tropical cyclone named RAE formed over the South Pacific Ocean, north of Fiji, on 21 February and started moving towards northern Fiji. On 24 February at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore approximately 250 km south-east of the capital city Suva, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h, classifying it as a tropical cyclone.
RAE is forecasted to continue moving south over the Ocean across southern Fiji, slightly weakening on 25 and 26 February and becoming a tropical storm.
Over the next 36 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges are forecast across Fiji. The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued an orange warning for gales over central and southern islands of the country.
