  • Tropical storm ALBERTO is approaching the north-eastern coast of Veracruz state and on 20 June at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 185 km east-southeast of Tampico city, south-eastern Tamaulipas state, eastern Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h.
  • ALBERTO is forecasted to move westwards,  making landfall over the eastern coast of central Mexico on 20 June, then weakening by moving inland, and dissipating over central Mexico on 20-21 June.
  • According to UN OCHA, heavy rainfall and strong winds associated with ALBERTO have impacted Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador. In addition, media report three fatalities in Nuevo León state, north-eastern Mexico due to the tropical storm.
  • For the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecasted over the Mexican states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, and south Texas (USA). Moreover, moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected across most of Central America.
  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Texas coast and for the northeastern coast of Mexico.

  • Tropical storm ALBERTO made landfall in the morning of 20 June close to the city of Tampico, south-eastern Tamaulipas state, eastern Mexico and resulted in casualties and disruptions.
  • According to media, four people died and public transportation has been temporarily suspended in Nuevo León state, north-eastern Mexico. In addition, widespread damage was recorded in Nuevo Leon and Veracruz. 
  • After its landfall, ALBERTO weakened and its remnants are forecasted to affect north-eastern Mexico , particularly Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas and southern USA, including south Texas, in the next few days.

  • Tropical storm ALBERTO made landfall over the area of northern Veracruz state (central Mexico) on 20 June in the morning (UTC) and passed over central Mexico on 20 June as a tropical depression.
  • On 21-22 June, heavy rainfall and strong winds associated to its remnants caused floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage across a wider area in Central America.
  • Media report, as of 24 June, up to 34 fatalities, of which 19 across El Salvador, ten in Guatemala, one more in Honduras and four in the Nuevo León state (Mexico). Media also report more than 15,000 displaced people across the aforementioned affected countries.
  • Over the 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over central and southern Mexico and most of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
