  • A new tropical cyclone named DOKSURI (termed "Egay" in the Philippines) formed over the Philippines Sea on 21 July and started moving north-west toward the Luzon Strait. On 24 July at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 580 km south-east of the far northern Luzon Island, northern Philippines, with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h (typhoon).
  • Rainfall already caused by DOKSURI over the Luzon Island resulted in approximately 1,200 displaced people across the area.
  • DOKSURI is forecast to continue northwestward strenghtening and it is exptected to pass over the Luzon Strait very close to northern Luzon on 25 July in the afternoon, with maximum sustained winds up to 215 km/h.
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over the central and northern Philippines and the whole Taiwan.

  • Tropical cyclone DOKSURI ("Egay" in the Philippines) has intensified into a super typhoon and is moving northwest towards Luzon Strait, expected to make landfall on 25-26 July. On 25 July at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located over the eastern Philippine Sea approximately 270km south-east of Santa Ana Municipality, Cagayan Province, northern Philippines, with maximum sustained winds of 241 km/h. It is projected to move north-northwest over the South-China Sea, passing south of Taiwan, and it could make landfall on 28 July over the coast of Guangdong Province.
  • Following heavy rainfall brought by EGAY in combination with the Southwest Monsoon, national authorities report one injured person, 100 displaced people and almost 17,000 affected people across five Regions. Up to 3.9 million people could be affected.
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over parts of northern Philippines, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Islands, and most of Taiwan.
  • DG ECHO partners have initiated anticipatory actions in areas most at risk in the Philippines.

  • Typhoon DOKSURI (named "Egay" in the Philippines) has made landfall twice in the northern tip of the country, in Fuga Island and Dalapuri Island of Cagayan Province at around 03:00 and 11:00 (UTC+8), respectively.  On 26 July at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 50 km north of the far northern Ilocos Region, northern Philippines, with maximum sustained winds of 204 km/h and gusts of up to 240 km/h.
  • Heavy rainfall already caused by the passage of DOKSURI resulted in casualties across northern and central Philippines. Heavy flooding and landslides are also reported to have affected the people. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports 180,500 affected people across 21 provinces. Displacement and impact information is still being collected. 
  • On 26-27 July, DOKSURI is forecast to enter into the South China Sea and to continue moving northwestward, weakening and reaching Zhangzhou City on 28 July as a tropical storm.
  • Over the next 72 hours, very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are forecast over central and northern Philippines, all of Taiwan, and Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces, eastern China.

  • Typhoon DOKSURI is moving towards south-eastern China after making landfall twice in the northern Philippines, killing five people, affecting more than 328,000 and displacing about 27,000 people. On 27 July at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 175 km south-west of Hengchun City, far southern Taiwan, and approximately 400 km south-east of the Zhangzhou City area, south-west Fujian Province, China, with maximum sustained winds of 139 km/h and gusts of up to 215 km/h.
  • China's national observatory has issued a red alert for Typhoon Doksuri, the most severe warning in its four-tier warning system, with gale-force winds expected. Taiwan's weather bureau issued wind and rain warnings. Over 5,700 people have been evacuated from flood- and landslide-prone areas in Taiwan's south and east. Fujian, eastern Guangdong, and Zhejiang coastal areas, as well as some parts of Taiwan, expect to see heavy downpours of 250 to 400 mm.

  • Typhoon DOKSURI passed very close to the southern coast of Taiwan on 27 July and is making landfall over the south-eastern coast of Fujian Province, China.
  • Doksuri is forecast to weaken into a tropical storm as it continues north-northwestward across Fujian and Jiangxi Provinces on 29 July before weakening to a tropical depression and dissipating late on 29 July.
  • The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management has mobilised emergency forces of over 4,000 personnel and five helicopters to address the immediate needs. Three coastal cities in Fujian Province, China, shut schools, businesses and factories.
  • In the Philippines the passage of DOKSURI on 25-26 July, resulted in at least 13 fatalities, 20 missing people, 12 injured people, over 42,000 displaced people and more than 500,000 affected, though information is still being collected. Many homes have been destroyed, and raining and flooding continue in the Philippines.
  • On 28-29 July heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds, and storm surges are expected for southern Jiangsu, southern Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, eastern Jiangxi, and southwestern Taiwan; these areas are all under a red warning for the typhoon.

  • The remnants of tropical cyclone DOKSURI reached Beijing City after it made landfall on 28 July over Fujian Province where more than 354,000 people living in the coastal area have been evacuated and 880,000 affected.
  • Following heavy rainfall and strong winds in the capital of China, more than 30,000 people have been displaced as well as another 20,000 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.
  • In the Philippines, the passage of DOKSURI on 25-26 July resulted in at least 25 fatalities, 20 missing people, 52 injured, almost 313,000 displaced and a total of approximately 2,400,000 affected people.
  • DG ECHO has allocated EUR 500,000 in immediate relief assistance to provide shelter assistance with water and sanitation services to most vulnerable families in northern Luzon. 
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, and eastern Shanxi in eastern China. All are under red warnings for rainstorms. Moderate rainfall with scattered thunderstorms is expected over most parts of the northern Philippines where extreme flood advisories are in effect.

  • The remnants of tropical cyclone DOKSURI is still bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds in Beijing City, Tianjin City and Hebei Province, eastern China, after it made landfall on 28 July over Fujian Province.
  • According to media, nearly 31,000 people have been displaced in Mentougou District, western Beijing, while 75,500 people have been evacuated in Hebei Province, and more than 20,000 buildings have been inspected for damage.
  • For the next 24 hours, more heavy rain and thunderstorm are forecast over Hebei and Beijing, eastern China. Red warnings for rainstorms are still active.
  • In the Philippines, the remnants of DOKSURI have enhanced the southwest monsoon, and seven provinces have been placed under a State of Calamity. About 2.5 million people have been affected and more than 312,000 people have been displaced. The livelihoods of more than 114,400 farmers and fishers have been affected, and 25 people have died. Extensive flooding has hit central Luzon, with 438 areas submerged. DG ECHO partners have begun rapid relief operations in coordination with the local government units of affected areas in the Philippines.

  • The remnants of tropical cyclone DOKSURI reached Beijing City, Tianjin Municipality, Shanxi and Hebei Province, eastern China, after it made landfall on 28 July over Fujian Province, causing floods, triggering landslides and resulting in casualties and damage.
  • According to media, as of 2 August, at least 20 people have died, including 11 in Beijing and nine in Hebei Province, while 27 are still missing due to floods and heavy rainfall. More than 50,000 people have been evacuated from the capital and 42,000 people from Shanxi Province, and approximately 125,000 people have been moved to shelters in Zhuozhou City (Hebei Province). In addition, more than 150,000 people are reported to be without running water and nearly 60,000 are affected by power outages.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more rainfall is forecast over eastern China, with locally heavy rain to very heavy rainfall in central-northern Hebei, Beijing and western Tianjin.

  • The remnants of tropical cyclone DOKSURI, which made landfall on 28 July over Fujian Province, have caused floods and triggered landslides in eastern China, in particular in Beijing City, Tianjin Municipality, and Shanxi and Hebei Province, resulting in casualties and damage.
  • According to media, as of 3 August at least 21 people have died, including 11 in Beijing and 10 in Hebei Province, while dozens are still missing due to floods and heavy rainfall. More than 1,000,000 people have been evacuated from the affected areas, including more than 50,000 people from the capital. More than 190,000 people have been relocated to shelters. Hebei, the most affected province, has declared a state of emergency.
  • A level-IV emergency response has been issued in Zhejiang Province (eastern China) due to the imminent approach of Typhoon Khanun, and nearly 200,000 people have been evacuated.
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate rainfall is forecast over Beijing City and Hebei Province.
