  • A new tropical cyclone, named FAY formed over the north Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Carolina (USA) on 9 July and started moving north along the coastal area of North Carolina and Virginia.
  • On 10 July, its centre was located offshore, approximately 95 km east of Virginia Beach City (Virginia), and approximately 245 km south of the southern coast of New Jersey (Delaware Bay), with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h.
  • FAY is forecast to move northward along the mid-Atlantic coast towards the southern New England, and it is forecast to make landfall over the Ocean County (eastern New Jersey) on 11 July, with maximum sustained winds up to 85 km/h.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain, and strong wind are forecast over mid-Atlantic coastal areas, south-east New York State, and south New England. NOAA has issued a tropical storm warning over coastal areas of New Jersey and Rhode Island.
