  • Tropical Cyclone WALLACE, is moving west-southwest over the south-eastern Indian Ocean. On 9 April at 0.00 UTC, its was located approximately 540 km north- northwest of Karratha city (Pilbara region, Western Australia), with sustained winds of 111 km/h.
  • In the next 24 hours, it is forecast to move away from the Pilbara coast, weakening.

  • Tropical cyclone WALLACE-19 continues west-southwest over the southern Indian Ocean. On the morning of 8 April its centre was located approximately 600 km north-northwest of Port Hedland (Pilbara region, Western Australia) and 650 km south-west of the coast of Sumba island (Indonesia), with maximum sustained winds up to 102 km/h. 
  • Over the next 24 hours, TC WALLACE-19 is forecast to move further south-west over the southern Indian Ocean, slightly strengthening. 
  • Indonesian National Authorities issued an early warning message for high waves in Sea and the waters around East Nusa Tenggara.

  • Tropical Cyclone TWENTYTHREE formed over the Arafura Sea on 2 April and is moving southwest close to the North Kimberley Coast (northeastern Western Australia State). On 5 April at 0.00 UTC, its centre was approximately 340 km north-west of Wadeye town (Northern Territory), with maximum sustained winds up to 65 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Over the next 24 hours, it is expected to continue south-west over the Timor Sea, strengthening with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h.
  • Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over the north-eastern and northern coast of Western Australia State on 5-6 April.
  • Gale and strong wind warnings have been issued for North Kimberley Coast, Ningaloo Coast, Gascoyne Coast, Esperance Coast and Eucla Coast,West Kimberley Coast and Geraldton Coast between 5-6 April.

  • After the passage of Tropical Cyclone KENNETH over Comoros and Northern Mozambique on 25 April, the death toll and the damage continue to rise.
  • As of 2 May at 8.00 UTC, UN OCHA reports seven dead in the Comoros and at least 200 injured. 45 000 people are affected, 20 000 have been displaced and 3 818 houses, 400 schools and six health centres were damaged. The national power grid is damaged and there is a high risk of water-borne diseases. 
  • In Mozambique, 41 fatalities have been reported, and 37 700 houses have been damaged. Several areas of Pemba have been flooded. Ibo district, and in particular Matemo island, has been one of the hardest-hit, with at least 85 per cent of houses destroyed. Road inaccessibility and heavy rain are challenging the humanitarian response.
  • Moderate to heavy rain, with severe thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast for Cabo Delgado and Nampula (Mozambique) and Comoros.
  • The European Commission's Copernicus satelite mapping service was activated on 26 April for northern Mozambique (EMSR354) and for Comoros (EMSR355). Sixteen maps have been produced so far for Cabo Delagado Province.
