  • Heavy rain has been affecting central Mexico (in particular Hidalgo State and the neighbouring Mexico State) over the past 48 hours, causing rivers overflow (particularly Tula and Rosas Rivers in Hidalgo), floods and flash floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Hidalgo, media report, as of 8 September, 17 fatalities and 41 evacuated people in Tula City (southern Hidalgo, approximately 70 km north of Mexico City), due to the flood that affected the city hospital. In addition, around 1,000 evacuated people and several damaged buildings were reported across the Tula City area.
  • In Mexico State, media report two fatalities in Ecatepec de Morelos Town (20 km north of Mexico City) due to flash floods.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rain is forecast over north-western, central and southern Mexico, including over parts of already affected States.
Querétaro State, Mexico, September 2021Heavy rain from 17 September caused flash floods in the municipalities of Tequisquiapan and San Juan del Rio in Querétaro state. Roads were swamped and vehicles submerged. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The San Juan River broke its banks. Media reported flooding was worsened by the runoff from the nearby Centenario Dam. Local media reported on 20 September that more than 50 families (an estimated 180 adults and 70 children) were evacuated from their homes in the La Rueda subdivision, municipality of San Juan del Río.Mon 4 Oct 2021FloodList provided by Copernicus GloFAS
