  • Tropical depression SIXTEEN (named GENER in the Philippines) crossed the northern Philippines on 16-17 September, moved over the South China Sea and continued towards central-eastern Vietnam. On 19 September at 0.00 UTC, its centre is located in approximately 114 km north-east of Dong-Ha city, Quang Tri province, eastern Viet Nam, with maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h. 
  • In the Philippines, the combination of the influence of typhoon BEBINCA, which made landall in eastern China on 16 September, the passage of tropical depression SIXTEEN, and the south-west monsoon resulted in 23 fatalities, 15 missing people and more than 1 million of affected people across 13 regions of the country, as reported by national authorities.
  • SIXTEEN is forecast to move eastwards and make landfall over the eastern coast of Quang Tri province in the coming hours.
  • Northern Vietnam has been affected by typhoon YAGI since 7 September and following its passage caused almost 300 fatalities.
  • For the next 48 hours, heavy to locally very heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected over most of central Vietnam.

  • Tropical depression SOULIK ("Gener" in the Philippines) made landfall over the Quang Tri province, central-eastern Vietnam on 19 September very early in the morning (UTC), with maximum sustained winds of 56 km/h. After that, it continued moving westward inland over central Laos, further weakening and dissipating.
  • In the Philippines, the combination of the passage of the typhoon BEBINCA that made landall in eastern China on 16 September, of the tropical depression SOULIK and the south-west monsoon caused 24 fatalities, 14 missing people, 13 injured people and nearly 95,000 displaced people across 13 regions of the country, as reported by NDRRMC.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall is forecast over central Vietnam and central Laos.

  • Tropical cyclone Soulik, taking a route similar to that of tropical cyclone Yagi, has been impacting Southeast Asian countries, with Myanmar being notably affected. The cyclone traversed the Viet Nam Sea's inland regions, heading west towards central Laos. The residual cloud cover and wind patterns led to widespread flooding, including flash floods and landslides.
  • The flooding in Myanmar has had a significant impact, touching the lives of nearly 890,000 people across 65 townships, with the most severe effects seen in the Mandalay region, southern Shan, eastern Bago, Kayin State, and Nay Pyi Taw. The flooding has resulted in over 300 deaths and close to 100 injuries.
  • DG ECHO partners are responding in the affected areas. Humanitarian needs are escalating as fresh flood events occur amidst ongoing conflict and airstrikes. Additional heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecasted for many areas of Myanmar from 21-25 September.
  • Media report, as of 23 September, one injured person, more than 2,300 evacuated families and over 90 damaged houses across the Quang Binh province, Viet Nam. In addition, media also report 53 damaged houses across the Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.
  • Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall is still forecast over central Viet Nam.
