  • A new tropical storm named MIDHILI formed over the central Bay of Bengal on 14 November in the evening (UTC) and started moving north-east toward eastern India and the neighbouring southern Bangladesh. On 17 November at 6.00 UTC its centre was located over the sea close to the coast of the Barisal Division, southern Bangladesh approximately 40 km south-west of the Kuakata City, with maximum sustained winds of 74 km/h (tropical storm).
  • MIDHILI is forecast to make landfall over the area of Kuakata City on the late morning (UTC) of 17 November, with maximum sustained winds up to 70 km/h. On 17-18 November, it is forecast to continue northeastward inland over the Barisal and Chittagong Division, as a tropical depression.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over the eastern West Bengal State of India and over southern, central and eastern Bangladesh.
