  • After a series of sporadic small ash emissions in September, the Manam volcano located in the Bismarck Sea (Papua New Guinea) erupted around 20.00 UTC on 19 October. 
  • According to the Smithsonian Institution, the large explosion at Southern Crater produced ash plumes up to 15.2 km. 
  • According to media reports, there are approximately 2,000 people living on the island, and local authorities are monitoring the situation and arranging evacuations for residents. 
  • On 21 October at 5.00 UTC, a Volcanic Ash Advisory (VAA) has been issued by the Darwin VAA Centre, with the aviation colour code red.
