  • Five major wildfires continues to burn across Los Angeles County, northern of Los Angeles and Pasadena cities, in southern California (USA) since 7 January, resulting in casualties, more evacuations and damage. According to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the total burn area is approximately 7,430 ha.
  • Media report, as of 9 January, at least five fatalities in Los Angeles County, more than 130,000 people under evacuation order, and at least 1,900 destroyed structures. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as of 8 January, several evacuation shelters have been opened in Los Angeles County: two in in the area of the Palisades fire, two in the area of the Eaton Fire and one close to the Hurst fire. In addition, more than 150,000 people have been affected by power outages, and all Malibu schools are closed.
  • A state of emergency has been declared for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the fire danger forecast is from very high to extreme across southern California.

  • The humanitarian impact of the severe wildfires that have been burning across Los Angeles County, in southern California (USA), since 7 January, is increasing. 
  • As of 10 January, the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS) reports a total burn area of 11,450 ha.
  • According to media reports, as of the same date, the death toll rose to ten in Los Angeles County, more than 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, at least 10,000 structures have been destroyed and approximately 60,000 have been threatened. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as of 9 January, the total burnt area due to the Palisades, Eaton and Hurst wildfires is more than 11,000 ha, 1,007 people have been displaced in seven shelters, 522,000 people are without power, several main roads have been closed. In addition, an unhealthy air quality alert has been issued.
  • A major disaster declaration has been declared for the State of California.

  • A number of wildfires continues to burn across southern California (USA) since 7 January, causing severe and widespread damage resulted in an increased number of casualties.
  • According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as of 12 January, the ongoing active wildfires are currently four across the Los Angeles county, which is the worst  affected, and the neighbouring Ventura, and San Bernadino counties. Palisades, Eaton, Hurst and Kenneth wildfires have burnt so far an area of approximately 16,000 ha and are currently not fully contained.
  • Media reports, as of 13 January, 24 fatalities across the affected counties. FEMA reports nearly 900 evacuated people in eight shelters, 19 evacuated healthcare facilities, and more than 105,000 mandatory evacuation orders. In addition, the state of emergency was declared by the California Government for Los Angeles, and Ventura counties, where the curfew is in force in the evacuation zones.
