- A new tropical cyclone named MOCHA formed over the southern Bay of Bengal on 11 May and started moving north-east toward western Myanmar. On 11 May at 0.00 UTC its centre was located over the sea approximately 460 km west of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (India), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (tropical storm).
- MOCHA is forecast to continue northeastward over the Bay of Bengal on 12-13 May, strenghtening. After that, it is expected to make landfall over the area of Sittwe City (the capital Rakhine State, western Myanmar, near south-eastern Bangladesh) with maximum sustained winds up to 165 km/h (tropical cyclone).
- Over 12-14 May, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast for western and south-western Myanmar.

- Tropical cyclone MOCHA is moving towards western Myanmar and south-eastern Bangladesh. On 12 May at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 520 km west of Diglipur Town (North Andaman Island, eastern India), with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h. MOCHA is expected to strengthen and continue northwest over the next three days, possibly making landfall between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State (Myanmar) on 14-15 May.
- The exposed of population of Myanmar is approximately 3 million people, with Rakhine State anticipated to be the most affected (200,000 people). The exposed of population of Bangladesh is 784,540 people. Myanmar’s Rakhine State is host to large numbers of Internally Displaced People (IDPs), while Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh is home to 1 million Rohingya refugees.
- In Myanmar, the national Disaster Management Centre has been activated and people living in low lying areas in Rakhine State have been advised to evacuate, though only limited evacuations are reported from IDP camps. In Bangladesh, the government-led Disaster Management Committee has been activated and preparations in refugee camps ongoing with local authorities and the Bangladesh Army, including pre-positioning of resources and evacuation plans. On the island of Bhasan Char, over Rohingya 28,000 refugees are being prepared to evacuate to 53 cyclone shelters.

- Tropical Cyclone MOCHA made landfall in Myanmar close to Sittwe City (Rakhine State, bordering with south-eastern Bangladesh) on 14 May in the morning (UTC) with maximum sustained winds up to 250 km/h. On 15 May at 0.00 UTC its centre was located over southern Sagaing State (northern Myanmar) with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h before moving over northern Myanmar and dissipating.
- Very heavy rainfall and strong winds have affected Rakhine, Chin, Magway and Mandalay (Myanmar), the Cox's Bazar area (Bangladesh) and Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur (India) since 13 May. Storm surge affected also coastal areas. Heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.
- In Myanmar, five fatalities, over 700 injured people, over 100 000 evacuated people, severe damage to Rohingya Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and houses were reported across Sittwe area and western Rakhine. Rapid needs assessments from humanitarian actors are ongoing.
- In Bangladesh, according to National Disaster Response Coordination Centre, a total of 414,170 people and 23,027 livestock were evacuated in 7,040 shelters in 14 coastal districts. Significant damage to thousands of refugee shelters and key facilities in camps and host communities in Cox’s Bazar district are reported but no loss of lives. Needs assessments are ongoing.
- In India, the authorities report 595 evacuated people and 2 995 affected people across Mizoram.
- Copernicus Emergency Mapping () was activated for both Myanmar and Bangladesh on 11 May.

- After the landfall of cyclone Mocha close to Sittwe City (Rakhine State, western Myanmar, bordering Bangladesh) on 14 May with maximum sustained winds of up to 250 km/h, on 14-15 May the cyclone passed over Chin, Magway, Sagaing and Kachin states (northern Myanmar), where it is now weakening and dissipating.
- Very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges (for coastal areas) affected these states, the Cox's Bazar area (Bangladesh) and Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur States (India).
- In Myanmar, media report 41 fatalities, over 700 injured and approximately 100,000 evacuated. A total of 2.2 million people are estimated to be affected by the cyclone. The worst affected area is Sittwe and western Rakhine, including several Rohingya Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps. There are unconfirmed reports of missing and injured people across a number of IDPs camps in the area. In Sittwe, most houses have been damaged.
- In Bangladesh, UN OCHA reports that as of 15 May, there are around 750,000 evacuated people and 2.3 million affected people.
- The Copernicus EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 12 May for Myanmar. So far, four satellite maps were produced.
- Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over south and eastern Bangladesh and over western and northern Myanmar, posing the threat of floods and landslides.

- The passage of the tropical cyclone MOCHA on 14-15 May over western and northern Myanmar (Rakhine, Chin, Magway, Sagaing and Kachin states) and south-eastern Bangladesh (Chattogram Division) has caused widespread damage, with the number of casualties being larger than initial estimations.
- In Myanmar, across all the aforementioned affected states, DG ECHO and UN OCHA reported 41 fatalities, around 700 injured people, approximately 100,000 evacuated and 5.4 million affected. The worst affected is western Rakhine, which includes several Rohingya Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps, which have been significantly damaged. In Chin, over 1,200 houses were partially or fully destroyed. Approximately 50 destroyed houses were reported across Sagaing. Severe flooding has affected more than 100,000 people in villages in Magway and Sagaing.
- In Bangladesh, UN reports, as of 15 May, nearly 430,000 affected people, over 2,000 destroyed houses and more than 10,600 damaged houses across the Chattogram Division. Rohingya refugees camps in the Cox's Bazar area were severely affected.
- The Copernicus EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 12 May for Myanmar and four satellite maps were produced so far.
- Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over both countries.

- The passage of the tropical cyclone MOCHA on 14-15 May over western and northern Myanmar (Rakhine, Chin, Magway and Sagaing states) caused a larger number of casualties than first reported, as well as widespread damage, especially in internally displaced person (IDP) camps.
- As of 22 May, the AHA Centre reports 145 confirmed fatalities, 131 injured, 912,277 evacuated people (of which around 233,000 in 454 evacuation centres) and 248,296 damaged buildings (of which over 2,000 schools and more than 320 health centres) across all the aforementioned affected states. The worst affected is western Rakhine (in particular the Sittwe City area), where initial reports indicate that some 90% of buildings were damaged.
- Military authorities are restricting access to the affected areas, but some humanitarian organisations are managing to conduct needs assessments.
- According to UN OCHA, 5.4 million people in Myanmar were in the path of the cyclone, with 3.2 million estimated as requiring humanitarian assistance.
