  • Tropical Cyclone BAVI is moving north towards the East China Sea. On 24 August at 0.00 UTC, its centre was approximately 200 km north-west of Okinawa Island, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h.
  • BAVI will strengthen as it approaches the Korean Peninsula, before making landfall over the north-western coast of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on 27 August.
  • For the next 24 hours, heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over eastern Okinawa (southern Japan), north-eastern Taiwan, Diaoyu Islands and coastal regions of central-northern Zhejiang.
  • Japan's Meteorological Agency has issued red warnings for high waves, flood and heavy rain over the Okinawa Islands. China's Meteorological Administration (CMA) has issued a yellow typhoon warning for Taiwan, Diaoyu Islands and central-northern Zhejiang.

  • Tropical Cyclone BAVI is strengthening as it moves north-northwest over the East China Sea. On 25 August at 0.00 UTC, its centre was approximately 450 km south-east of Shanghai, with maximum sustained winds of 167 km/h.
  • BAVI will make landfall over the south-western coast of Democratic Republic of Korea on 27 August, with maximum sustained winds up to 180 km/h.
  • Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over eastern and north-eastern coastal areas of China (particularly the Shandong Peninsula), the Okinawa and Amami Islands (southern Japan), and the western Korean Peninsula. 
  • A yellow typhoon warning is still in effect from Taiwan to the north-eastern coastal area of China.

  • Tropical Cyclone BAVI made landfall on 27 August over the coast of North Pyongan Province in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), with maximum sustasined winds up to 100-120 km/h.
  • In DPRK, typhoon Bavi made landfall in North Hwanghae and South Hwanghae provinces, a major source of farming and fishing for the country. Damage to houses and public facilities including flooded roads were reported.
  • After the passage of BAVI along the western coast of the Republic of Korea, damage to facilities, power outages and mandatory evacuations were reported.
  • BAVI is forecast to weaken, as it moves north-east over the northern Korea Peninsula, reaching Jilin Province (north-eastern China) in the afternoon of 27 August.
  • On 26 August, typhoon warnings were issued for most regions of DPRK and neighbouring Liaoning Province (north-eastern China).
