Northern England and Scotland, UK, Late October 2021Very heavy rain fell in parts of northern England and Scotland from 27 October 2021. Flooding was reported in Cumbria, in particular in areas around Cockermouth, where the government said 40 homes were damaged. Fire crews rescued people trapped in vehicles in Duddon Bridge. Roads were closed in several areas, including Santon Bridge, Clappersgate, Troutbeck and Seatoller. In Scotland, a "Major Incident" was declared in Hawick after the Teviot river broke its banks. 500 homes were thought to be at risk and some evacuations carried out. By late 28 October the local government said the major incident in Hawick was declared over and evacuated residents allowed to return to their homes after the river crested at 2.9 metres. Flooding from the the River Annan caused damage to bridges and closed roads in Annan and surrounding areas of Dumfries and Galloway. A landslide blocked a road near Bankend. Nithsdale Police said 4 people were rescued from a flooded premises in Whitesands in Dumfries by a Fire and Rescue Service boat. Some homes were flooded in Dalbeattie. The heavy rain also caused flash or urban flooding in parts of central Glasgow, disrupting traffic and public transport. Local media reported 3 people died and 1 was injured in Pembrokeshire, Wales on 30 October 2021. The victims are thought to have been paddle boarding when they were swept away by a sudden flash flood on the River Cleddau in Haverfordwest. Flooding on roads was also reported in various parts of Wales, in particular along the M4 motorway in areas near Newport. Parts of the country of Dorset in southwestern England saw heavy rain and some minor flooding on 31 October 2021.Mon 1 Nov 2021Provided by Copernicus EMS GloFAS
