  • An earthquake of 6.2 M (6.3 M as reported by the Japan Meteorological Centre) at a depth of 9 km occurred very close to the coast of Noto Peninsula (central-western Honshu Island, central Japan) on 5 May at 5.42 UTC (14.42 local time). The epicentre was located in the sea, approximately 12 km north-east of Suzu City (Ishikawa Prefecture).
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 11,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 23,000 others to strong shaking.
  • According to media, there are no immediate reports of any casualties or damage. The seismic event led to the suspension of some train lines, including the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Nagano and Kanazawa stations.

  • After the earthquake of 6.2 M (depth 9 km) occurred close to the coast of Noto Peninsula (Ishikawa Prefecture, central Honshu Island, Japan) on 5 May at 5.42 UTC (14.42 local time), casualties and damage were reported.
  • The main event was followed by two significant aftershocks in the area of 4.6 M (depth 10 km) at 8.38 UTC and 5.6 M (depth 8 km) at 12.58 UTC.
  • Following the main earthquake of 6.2 M, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA) and media report, as of 8 May, one fatality, 33 injured people and some damaged buildings across the Ishikawa Prefecture, where the Suzu City and Noto Town were the worst affected places.
