  • Since 5 February, Arequipa Department in southern Peru has been affected by floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall. 
  • According to Peru's National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), the number of fatalities has increased to 18, while 20 individuals are missing in Camana Province. At least 27 persons sustained injuries, while the number of affected people is more than 6,300. Nearly 1,600 houses, 60 educational centres, and two hospitals have been affected by various degrees of damage.
  • Flash floods and mudslides (huayco) in San Ramon District (Junin Department, central Peru), caused one fatality and two injured people. 
  • A red alert for river overflow has been issued for the Utcubamba River in Jamalca District, Amazon Department (northern Peru).
  • Moderate to locally heavy rainfall is forecast over central and southern Peru on 13-14 February.

  • The number of casualties is increasing following heavy rainfall, floods and landslides that have been affecting several Departments of Peru since the beginning of March.
  • According to UN OCHA, at least 58 people have died while the National Institute of Civil Defense of Peru (INDECI) reports more than 24,000 affected people and more than 6,400 damaged or destroyed houses.
  • The State of Emergency has been declared in the Departments of Cajamarca, La Libertad, Lambayeque and Piura for the impact due to the huge precipitations.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is expected across north-western, western and south-western Peru while light to moderate rain is expected across the rest of the country.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Peru since January 2023, causing floods, rivers overflow and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage. The most affected departments are Piura (the worst affected one), Tumbes and Lambayeque in the north and Ayacucho and Arequipa in the south.
  • UN OCHA and the National Center for Estimation, Prevention and Disaster Risk Reduction (CENEPRED) report, as of 27 March, 71 fatalities, nearly 131,000 people in need of humanitarian assistance, around 54,000 damaged houses and 144 destroyed bridges across the country.
  • The Government has declared the state of emergency for 1,030 districts (54% of the total of districts across the country). Humanitarian organizations are currently responding to this emergency as well as collecting more information on needs and risks.  
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole country.

  • Since December, heavy rainfall has been hitting most parts of Peru causing floods, and landslides and leading to an increasing number of affected people.
  • A total of 1,056 Districts have been declared in a state of emergency (54 per cent of the country). In the northern Provinces of Tumbes, Piura and Lambayeque, among the most affected, the authorities issued an emergency declaration of the highest level.
  • According to the latest report of UN OCHA, approximately 517,000 people have urgent humanitarian needs, 410,000 others have been directly affected, 12,000 houses have been destroyed and 73,000 damaged.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate rain is expected across most parts of the country, particularly across the northern, central and south-eastern Provinces.

  • Over the past few days, heavy rainfall continues to hit several Departments of Peru, causing floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents that resulted in an increasing number of fatalities and affected people.
  • According to the National Institute of Civil Defense of Peru (INDECI), in Piura Department, 15 people died and almost 76,000 people have been affected. In Lambayeque, five people lost their lives while more than 34,400 have been affected. In Huancavelica Department two people died and 5,526 people have been affected. In Lima Department, the same source reports two fatalities and more than 1,400 affected people. Furthermore, in La Libertad Department, one person died and almost 7,000 people have been affected.
  • On 12-13 April, moderate rain is expected across most parts of North-western, western and south-western Peru.

  • On 14 April, a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall occurred in the Atavillos Bajo District (Huaral Province, Lima Department) resulting in casualties and damage.
  • According to the National Institute of Civil Defense of Peru (INDECI), two people have died, five resulted missing, and more than 60 people have been affected as well as 29 houses.
  • For the next 24 hours, drier conditions are expected over the affected Province.

  • After the landslide that occurred in the Atavillos Bajo District (Huaral Province, Lima Department) on 14 April, the number of fatalities reached three people.
  • According to the National Institute of Civil Defense of Peru (INDECI), four people are still missing, almost 80 people have been affected, 24 houses destroyed and ten damaged.
  • For the next 24 hours, drier conditions are expected over the affected province.
