  • An earthquake of 7.0 M at a depth of 14 km occurred off the south-western coast of Guadalcanal Island on 22 November at 2.03 UTC (13.03 local time). The epicentre of the earthquake was offshore 17 km south-west of Koraga Village (Guadalcanal, southern Solomon Island).
  • Following the seismic event, tsunami warnings have been issued and a tsunami of about 3 cm has been measured across the coasts of the Solomon Islands. On 22 November at 03:53 UTC, the tsunami threat has been lifted.
  • At least five aftershocks of magnitude up to 6.0 M have been recorded in the area.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 12,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and up to 180,000 people to strong shaking.
  • According to media reports, some buildings in Guadalcanal Island have been damaged as well as the airport of Honiara, in addition, power cuts have been recorded in Honiara.
