  • Monsoon rainfall has been affecting northern India, causing floods, triggering landslides and resulting in casualties and damage across northern Indian states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

  • At least 20 people have been reported killed due to floods and landslides. Delhi witnessed its highest single day of rainfall since 1982. A flood warning has been issued by the Delhi government.

  • Streets were flooded in the northern States and several parts of Delhi while landslides in Himachal Pradesh, the worst hit state, had blocked about 700 roads.

  • For the next 24 hours moderate to heavy rain is forecast across the northern States, particularly over Himachal Pradesh and northern West Bengal and Sikkim where a red warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms is in effect.

  • Monsoon rainfall and consequent floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents continue to hit several parts of India (particularly the northern States), resulting in an increasing number of casualties. 9,572 people have been evacuated and 101,764 affected. In addition, 460 buildings have been partially or fully damaged across 51 Districts of nine states. Over 125 deaths have been reported due to weather-related events in north Indian states in the current phase of flooding reported since 06 July.
  • The flood and landslide situation in northern Indian states shows signs of improvement with reduced rains over the past 24 hours.
  • 39 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in four northern Indian states to address the crisis through rescue, relief, clearing debris from landslide affected roads, and restoration of electricity and communication systems.
  • IMD issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and the northeastern states in the next 24 hours. Delhi remains on alert due to high river flows.

  • The number of casualties is increasing following the monsoon rainfall that has been affecting several parts of India and Pakistan.
  • In India, in the past 24 hours, 13 people died (five in Haryana, four in Punjab, two in Madhya Pradesh, one in Assam and another in Himachal Pradesh) while 11,543 people have been evacuated and 126,305 affected (most of them in Assam and Uttar Pradesh). Since April, a total of 600 people died in floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents.
  • In Pakistan, since 25 June, a total of 91 people died, (most of them due to severe weather-related incidents and landslides), 167 have been injured and 101 houses have been damaged.
  • For the next 48 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across the northern, western, central, eastern and north-eastern States of India and over the central and northern Provinces of Pakistan.
  • Red warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms are in effect for parts of West Bengal and Sikkim (northern India) while warnings for floods and landslides have been issued for the northern and northern-central Provinces of Pakistan.
