- Very heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Mozambique (mainly the central provinces of Sofala and Zambezia), causing widespread floods that have resulted in an increasing humanitarian impact.
- As of 14 January, the National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports 38 fatalities (of whom 11 across the Gaza province and ten in the Manica province), 25 injured people, approximately 12 250 currently evacuated people in 23 accommodation centres and a total of nearly 145 000 affected people (of whom more than 29 500 in the Buzi district, Sofala province, and over 7 250 in the Maganja da Costa district, Zambezia province) across the country. In addition, INGD also reports 2 983 destroyed houses, 23 600 damaged houses, nine damaged health facilities and four damaged bridges countrywide.
- Over the next 96 hours, more heavy rainfall, accompanied at times by severe thunderstorms and winds with strong gusts, is forecast over most of the country (except the far north), mostly affecting the southern provinces.

- The situation in Mozambique has been worsening in the last two days, due to very high amounts of rain affecting several provinces of the country.
- Floods are impacting several provinces, particularly Gaza and Maputo. As of 17 January, national authorities report up to 103 fatalities, 86 injured persons, over 5 000 destroyed houses and around 173 000 persons potentially exposed.
- Significant damage to infrastructure and agricultural crops are also reported, with potential dire consequences on health and food situations.
- The authorities of Mozambique have activated a red alert to the whole national territory.
- On 17 January, the authorities of Mozambique requested the EU for assistance. While the details of the request are being clarified with the authorities, the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) shared information through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
- Copernicus Rapid Mapping Services have also been activated to provide satellite imagery support (). 9 products have been issued so far.
- More heavy rain is forecast until 18 January, with precipitation expected to decrease by 20 January. Further riverine flooding is expected, with several rivers forecast to exceed the 20-year return period in the coming days, including the Limpopo, Incomati and Umbuluzi rivers.

- Very heavy rainfall has been affecting Mozambique (mainly the southern and the central provinces) since 24 December, causing widespread floods that have resulted in an increasing humanitarian impact. The worst affected provinces are Gaza, Maputo, Inhambane and Sofala.
- As of 19 January, the National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports 43 fatalities, 28 injured people, approximately 68 600 currently evacuated people in 77 accommodation centres and a total of nearly 610 000 affected people across the country. In addition, INGD also reports 3 231 destroyed houses and around 78 000 damaged houses countrywide.
- DG ECHO partners in Mozambique, CARE and WFP, are currently responding to the crisis.
- The Copernicus EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode on 17 January. 14 maps have been produced so far.
- Moreover, very heavy rainfall since early January caused severe floods across the neighbouring South Africa and Zimbabwe. In South Africa, the death toll reached 30 fatalities since late December. The worst affected provinces are Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In Zimbabwe, 70 fatalities were reported across Masvingo, Manicaland, Midlands and Mashonaland East provinces.
- Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall, with locally very heavy rainfall, is still forecast over most of Mozambique, north-eastern South Africa and all of Zimbabwe.

- The National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports, as of 20 January, 50 fatalities, 30 injured people, approximately 78 200 people remain evacuated in 79 accommodation centres and a total of nearly 612 500 affected people across the country. In addition, INGD reports 3 327 destroyed houses and around 78 500 damaged houses countrywide.
- The Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated for flooding and severe erosion on 19 January. The ERCC received a request from UN OCHA for environmental technical experts. The Copernicus EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 17 January, and 17 maps have been produced so far.
- Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall, with locally very heavy rainfall, is still forecast over the southern provinces of the country.

- Very heavy rainfall continued to affect most of Mozambique (particularly the southern and the central provinces) over the period from 24 December to 21 January, causing severe floods that have resulted in an increasing humanitarian impact, with Gaza, Maputo, Inhambane and Sofala as the worst affected provinces.
- The National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports, as of 22 January, 60 fatalities, six still missing persons, 30 injured people, more than 96 000 currently evacuated in 93 accommodation centres and a total of nearly 684 000 affected across the country. In addition, INGD also reports 3 431 destroyed houses and over 87 900 damaged houses countrywide.
- WFP has activated its Crisis Modifier under a DG ECHO-funded regional programme supporting the SADC Humanitarian and Emergency Operations Centre (SHOC) to deploy a SADC Emergency Response Team (ERT), requested by Mozambician authorities.
- The Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated by UN OCHA for flooding and severe erosion on 19 January. As of 21 January, the UCPM offered nine experts from four Member States. The Copernicus EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 17 January, and 33 maps have been produced so far.
- Over the next 12 hours, light rainfall is forecast over the southern and central provinces of the country, while no more rainfall is forecast over the area starting from 23 January for the next 72 hours.

- The humanitarian impact continues to increase following the heavy rains and consequent floods that have been affecting the country since 24 December 2025.
- According to the National Disasters Management Institute (INGD), 69 people have died, six persons remain missing, and 74 have been injured. More than 111 000 people are currently evacuated and are being housed in 113 accommodation centres, while almost 750 000 people have been affected across the country. INGD also reports that over 4 000 houses have been destroyed and more than 162 000 houses are flooded.
- The Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated by UN OCHA for flooding and severe erosion on 19 January 2026. As of 21 January 2026, the UCPM has offered nine experts from four Member States. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) was placed in rapid-mapping mode (EMSR857) on 17 January 2026, and 49 maps have been produced so far.
- For the next three days, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across most of northern Mozambique. Monitoring will continue and additional humanitarian assistance is being coordinated to address the evolving needs of the affected population.

- The National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports, as of 27 January, 70 fatalities, six still missing persons, 78 injured people, nearly 115,200 currently evacuated people in 123 accommodation centres and a total of approximately 786,000 affected people across the country. In addition, INGD also reports more than 4,000 destroyed houses and nearly 172,800 damaged houses countrywide.
- The Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated by UN OCHA for flooding and severe erosion on 19 January in the evening. The UCPM offered seven experts from three Member States. The Copernicus EMS was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 17 January, and 49 maps have been produced so far.
- The reliefEU flight arrived in Maputo during the night of 25 January, delivering nutrition, WASH, shelter, health, protection, and education items. The cargo will be transferred by vessel from Maputo to Xai-Xai today.
- Over the next 72 hours, no more rainfall is forecast over the southern and central provinces of the country, while moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over northern provinces.

- Since late December heavy rainfall has been impacting most of Mozambique (particularly the central and southern provinces), causing severe floods that have resulted in an increasing number of casualties and damage. The worst-hit provinces are Gaza, Maputo, Inhambane and Sofala.
- The National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports, as of 27 January, 78 fatalities, 12 still missing persons, 78 injured people, nearly 112 000 currently evacuated people in 125 accommodation centres and about 800 000 affected people across the country. In addition, more than 4,000 houses have been destroyed, and more than 175 000 houses were flooded countrywide.
- The Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated by UN OCHA for flooding and severe erosion on 19 January. The UCPM offered experts, early recovery, shelter and WaSH items from three Member States.
- On 25 January, the first EU Humanitarian Air Bridge cargo flight landed in Maputo with 90 tonnes of humanitarian supplies.
- DG ECHO allocated EUR 950 000 from the Acute Large Emergency Response Tool (ALERT) and replenished the IFRC Disaster Emergency Relief Fund (DREF) to support emergency relief action.
- The Copernicus EMS was activated and 58 maps have been produced so far.

- The humanitarian impact of the widespread flooding that has been affecting southern Mozambique in recent weeks is increasing.
- According to the National Disaster Management Institute (INGD), as of 16 January, 41 people have died, 26 have been injured, 16 270 people have been evacuated across 40 accommodation centres, and a total of 196 196 people have been affected across the country since 24 December 2026, with Sofala province as the most affected. The destroyed houses are 3 059, the damaged houses are 7 382, and the flooded houses are 25 167.
- On 16-17 January, more rainfall is forecast over most of Mozambique.
