Hurricane Milton, USA, October 2024Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm in Siesta Key, near Sarasota, Florida, USA on 09 October 2024. Milton was then downgraded to a Category 2 storm. Storm surge flooded some coastal areas. Heavy rain prompted flood warnings. St. Petersburg recorded over 400 mm of rain. The storm brought winds over 160 km/h and triggered numerous tornadoes. Tornadoes destroyed dozens of homes, many in mobile home communities. Wind damage left over 2 million homes and businesses in Florida without power, with Hardee, Sarasota, and Manatee counties being hit hardest. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued across 15 Florida counties, affecting about 7.2 million people.Thu 10 Oct 2024FloodList provided by Copernicus GloFAS
